FICAM Whitepaper

A web-based, policy-driven software solution that aligns with the FICAM initiative of PACS modernization, supports the target state proposed in FICAM use cases 7, 8 and 9, and automates privilege lifecycle management for physical access.

FICAM Whitepaper

This white paper provides a detailed treatment of the FICAM “target state” for physical access and security, which when achieved can allow a government department or agency to assert FICAM alignment and thus compliance with the OMB M-11-11 directive. Not only can the agency avoid further potentially disruptive oversights and financial penalties, but more importantly, reap the rewards of FICAM conformance through increased security and lowered costs of operation via security policy automation and streamlined processes for physical access.

This white paper explores the ideal solution and details how Quantum Secure’s SAFE for FICAM Solution maps to the FICAM target state. One federal department which has adopted this ideal solution has achieved the following objectives:

    • Centrally manage physical identities across the department and provide the underlying agencies to share their attributes
    • Interface with the authoritative source for PIV cardholders – IDMS system, and automatically synchronize the on-/off-boarding of these identities into the PACS
    • Perpetual validation of the PKI certificate on PIV card, i.e. at an interval of every 18 hours
    • Use the SAFE integration framework to connect its multiple proprietary PACS and eliminate the risks associated with erroneous provisioning and de-provisioning
    • Manage different department entities within one solution while ensuring segregation of identity, access privilege and visitor data
